Dehradun: The coronavirus which is becoming epidemic worldwide has become an important cause of trouble for the people. Due to the ongoing lockdown to prevent an epidemic like Corona, the Uttarakhand government is providing relief to about 11 lakh APL families of the state. The government has doubled the amount of cheap ration available to these families under the state food scheme. Where now 15 kg ration will be given per ration card. Till now seven and a half kilos of ration was given per month. On Wednesday, in a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, it was approved to double the cheaper ration of APL families.

According to the information received, there are more than 23 lakh ration card holders in the state, which are in three categories. Primary and Antyodaya ration card holders are under the National Food Security Scheme. Their number is about 13 lakhs. While about 11 lakh APL families are included in the state food scheme. Apart from the cheap ration being given to the primary and Antyodaya family ration card holders per month by the central government, now an additional five kg of rice is being given free of cost. If sources are to be believed, these families already get more ration than APL. The state government has doubled the ration quota of APL families of the state food scheme from April to June.
