The second wave of corona infection in India is proving to be more severe. As many cases have been reported from across the country as they have now been seen due to the first wave. Most worryingly, the number of corona deaths is also increasing now. According to medical experts, there could be two reasons why the second wave of corona infection is severe and sharp.
Professor N. Singh, Director, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi. N. Mathur said that due to the first wave of corona last year, antibodies were found in many people, which is effective in fighting corona infection. He said that it is likely that either these antibodies are proving to be unable to fight this new virus or the antibodies that people developed during the first wave of corona last year have now lost their impact.
Mathur said that the serosurvey conducted in the national capital Delhi and many other states during the last year had found antibodies in large numbers, but the kind of infection that is visible this year suggests that antibodies have now weakened. He further said that the second reason could be that antibodies are proving unable to fight the second wave virus, which is why the cases of infection are increasing at a faster pace.
