New Delhi: The apex court has approved the counting of votes for the UP Panchayat elections on a pre-scheduled date after a hearing on Saturday. In UP, counting of panchayat elections is scheduled tomorrow i.e. The court, while pronouncing its verdict, said that it is the responsibility of the authorities to follow the covid guidelines properly.

Earlier, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking a halt to the counting of votes. The teachers' association had filed a petition saying that they did not want to work. He says 700 teachers have lost their lives during the elections in four phases. Earlier, during the hearing, the court asked the Election Commission whether the counting of votes could be postponed for a few more days. The court said, 'In view of the situation, do you want to move forward? Can you get it done after two weeks so that the medical facilities are further restored by then?'

The court also said, 'You want to go ahead in view of all the situation. If counting is postponed for three weeks, the sky will not fall.' On this, the UP Election Commission said that the decision to conduct the counting of votes on schedule has been taken by the Commission. The Commission also informed that corona protocol will be taken care of everywhere. After which the Supreme Court gave its nod.
