By eliminating these six types of allowances, the government is estimated to save about Rs 1500 crore in a year. The city compensation allowance is given to all the state employees and teachers posted in cities with a population of one lakh or more. Closing it will affect the state employees the most. There are 16 lakh state employee-teachers in the state. At present, the state employees were being given city compensation allowance ranging from 250 to 900 rupees per month according to the categories of cities.
