New Delhi: A letter petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking suo-motu cognizance on the agitation by resident doctors against postponement in NEET-PG counselling. The letter appeal was submitted by Advocate Vineet Jindal in response to a protest by resident doctors, which was led by the Federation of Resident Doctors Association of India (FORDA).

This mass protest has erupted, because the Union Health Ministry has taken no real steps to speed up NEET-PG counseling, the lawyer said. In its letter, the petitioner sought the Supreme Court to postpone the hearing on the economic reservation in the NEET-PG course and to begin day-to-day hearings in the case. He also requested that the Indian government appoint a commission to address the issues surrounding the physicians' protests.

He also wants the Delhi Commissioner of Police to launch an investigation and take strong action against personnel who physically assaulted the protesting physicians.

In the letter petition, the lawyer praises doctors for their exemplary service extended during two COVID19 outbreaks, claiming that doctors are the saviours of mankind in times of crises.
