Covid fatality higher in people under age of 50: AIIMS study

New Delhi: AIIMS study amid corona crisis has claimed that corona infection has caused 65 years of age and more deaths than other age group persons. The study has been attended by AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria, AIIMS Trauma Centre Principal Doctor Rakesh Malhotra and many others. The analysis of the study, published in the Indian Journal of Critical Care Medicine, used data between April 4 and July 24 last year. Aiims study on corona deaths was conducted to find out the causes of death rate of admitted patients at corona centres in India.

During the same period of study, about 654 patients were admitted to ICU, out of which 247 patients died and the mortality rate was recorded at about 37.7 per cent. These patients were divided into several age groups to simplify the study. In which groups of patients from 18 to 50, 51 to 65 and above 65 were formed.

The same study shows that 42.1% of deaths occurred in patients in the age group of 18-50 years. Between 51 and 65, 34.8 per cent of patients lost their lives due to corona. The percentage of deaths of patients above 65 years of age was recorded at 23.1 per cent. Most of these corona patients include high blood pressure, sugar and chronic kidney diseases. The patients who died were suffering from fever, cough and respiratory problems.
