New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned on Wednesday that the Covid-19 crisis has not yet been resolved, stressing the importance of administering vaccines to every eligible child at the earliest and ensuring Covid-appropriate behaviour in public places, during his meeting with Chief Ministers of several states.
"After a long period of closure, schools have reopened across the country. Families are concerned about the increased number of COVID-19 cases in such a setting. It is our top priority to vaccinate all of the children who are eligible as soon as possible "PM Modi remarked following the meeting.
To reach the stated target, the prime minister stated that special COVID-19 immunisation campaigns in schools are required. He went on to say, "We need to make sure that parents and teachers are aware of this programme."
"Despite having handled the COVID situation better than other countries, we are now seeing an increase in instances in states. We must keep vigilant. It is obvious that the COVID challenge has yet to be met "said the Prime Minister.
PM Modi's comments come a day after the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) gave Bharat Biotech's Covaxin an emergency use authorization (EUA) for children aged 6 to 12.
