The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) is thinking of starting its season in September -2020. In a special general meeting held online on Saturday, the AFI has decided to postpone its elections and has decided to extend the tenure of the officers.

AFI said in a statement, "High performance director Volker Harman, head coach Bahadur Singh, and deputy chief coach Radhakrishnan Nair have set the calendar for the resumption of the domestic season in September." Lalit Bhanot, chairman of AFI's planning committee, said, "We thought we would have the tournament in two phases but we would have to do it in one phase."

AFI said on March 29 that it would bring a new domestic calendar due to the postponement of several tournaments due to coronavirus. On extending the tenure of the officers, AFI President Adile J. Sumariwala said, "It is necessary that we follow the procedure. The authorities have however approved the proposal to extend the tenure of the union."
