Odisha's Health Department reported 3,679 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, a 36 percent increase over the previous day and the largest single-day increase in more than six months. Coronavirus cases in the coastal state totaled 10.66 lakh.
According to the report, the daily test positivity rate increased to 5.15 percent from 3.92 percent on Friday, with 384 children among those infected. The death toll stood at 8,468 as of this writing, with no new fatalities reported in the previous 24 hours. So far, 53 other Covid patients have died as a result of comorbidities, according to officials.
According to the department, Khurda district reported one-third of the new cases, with 1,223 infections, followed by 582 in Sundargarh, 372 in Sambalpur, 310 in Cuttack, 134 in Jharsuguda, and 100 in Puri. Single-day cases in the state increased by more than a factor of 12 from 298 on January 1 to 1,897 on Thursday in only two days.
According to the bulletin, Odisha currently has 11,663 active cases, up from 8,237 a day earlier, and 10.46 lakh individuals have recovered from the disease so far. Since Friday, a total of 71,432 samples have been tested for COVID-19, according to the report.
