HYDERABAD: HYDERABAD: Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao has been elected as the Communist Party of India's Telangana state secretary (CPI).
After a competitive race between two candidates for the position, the former MLA was finally elected. Following the late-night poll, the results were declared during the state conference, which was held at Shamshabad, a town outside of Hyderabad.
Even though it was anticipated that the new secretary would be chosen unanimously, a contest arose as soon as Sambasiva Rao and Palla Venkat Reddy staked their claims. Sambasiva Rao received 59 votes while Venkat Reddy received 45 in the highly charged contest.
Sambasiva Rao, a former Kothagudem MLA, was the assistant on the previous state committee.
Chada Venkat Reddy held the position of state secretary for two terms since the establishment of Telangana in 2014. A leader may serve three terms in office, according to the party's rules. He was eager to serve a third term as secretary. Sambasiva Rao insisted that perhaps this time he would have a second opportunity.
Chada Venkata Reddy has said that he would only accept the position for a third time if he were chosen by a unanimous vote. In the event of a contest, he vowed to drop out of the running.
A struggle was unavoidable because Palla Venkat Reddy, another party leader, also declared his candidacy for the position. According to reports, Palla Venkat Reddy's candidacy received the support of Chada Venkat Reddy. This added intrigue to the competition. Nevertheless, Sambasiva Rao won the hotly contested fight with a majority of 14 votes.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which is in power, has lately received the CPI's support ahead of the impending by-election for the Munugode Assembly. After CPI made its choice, the CPI-M also offered support to TRS.
Left-leaning parties have praised K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the chief minister and leader of the TRS, for his decision to bring together all democratic and secular forces to oppose the BJP at the federal level.
