Mumbai: A man accused of more than 50 serious crimes across Maharashtra has been arrested by the police in the Thane district. Police have given information about this on Friday. Assistant Police Inspector Anil Gaikwad of Khadakpada Police Station has informed that on the basis of secret information, a patrol team of Khadakpada Police arrested the accused in Kalyan on Wednesday.

The official said that the accused allegedly used to rob people posing as a policeman and was a wanted criminal in several cases. He is allegedly involved in offenses including an attempt to murder, assault on a public servant, cheating, dacoity, and causing hurt during dacoity, the official said. These criminal cases have been registered in Thane, Mumbai, Nashik, Pune, and Ahmednagar districts and even Kancheepuram police stations in Tamil Nadu, he said, adding that further investigation is underway.

This is not the first case of robbery and other crimes by posing as police, but such cases have come earlier also. Last December itself, the police busted the Irani gang who robbed elderly women and foreign nationals in Delhi posing as fake policemen. The mastermind of this gang has also been caught by the police.
