Ahmedabad: The devastation caused by the Tauktae storm in Una and Gir-Garhda talukas of Gir Somnath district in Saurashtra is yet to be cured. Normal life is still in a mess. Even after more than 25 days of the storm, people in many rural areas of Una taluka are still forced to live in darkness. Cultivable land has also dried up due to lack of electricity. Animals are wandering for water.
People in the locality are forced to fill water from wells to feed cattle. The families of 35 army personnels are still living in the dark here. This is the case with Sankhda village under Una taluka. Sankhda village, 20 km from Una, has a large population of Gohil darbaras. About 35 jawans from this village are serving in the Indian Army. The families of these soldiers are currently living here in a very miserable condition.
This is trlhe truth of Malan village, just two kilometres away from Sankhda village. A total of 1,500 families in Sankhada and Malan Gam are associated with agricultural work. On May 17, the storm Tauktae uprooted horticulture trees like mango and coconut.
