New Delhi: An alert has been sounded in five states over cyclone 'Tauktae.' There are reports that the cyclone, which is being built in the Arabian Sea, has turned into a severe cyclonic storm. At the same time, preparations have now been started to keep the people safe. In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting to review the preparedness for Cyclone Tauktae.

Meanwhile, he asked the officials to take all possible measures to protect the people. Not only that, he also directed to ensure maintenance of all essential services like electricity, telecommunications, health, drinking water. On the other hand, special preparations have been issued for covid management, vaccine cold chain and power back up in hospitals and storage of essential medicines at vulnerable places due to cyclone. It is feared that winds of 150 to 150 kmph will blow. It has also been said that the speed of the winds may be even higher.

Heavy rain may occur at isolated places in Lakshadweep today. Moreover, rain has continued in Kerala since last Thursday night. Relief camps have been set up in several districts so far. The Met department says the storm is set to reach the coastal areas of Gujarat on May 18. According to reports, 'Tauktae' has turned into a severe cyclonic storm and is moving towards coastal areas of Gujarat. It is now moving towards Daman, Diu and Dadra, Nagar Haveli.
