Cyclone Yaas: Odisha-West Bengal Coasts are Expected to hit Today

As the India Weather Department classified cyclone Yaas as a 'very severe cyclonic storm' late on Tuesday, a red-coded warning was issued to Odisha and West Bengal, where the storm is expected to make landfall today.

Yaas is expected to cross north Odisha-West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar Islands close to north of Dhamra and south of Balasore with a maximum speed of 155 kmph to 165 kmph gusting to 185 kmph.

According to the Metrological Department, the storm was positioned 160 km south-southeast of Paradip in Odisha and 240 km south-southeast of Digha in West Bengal over north-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal on Tuesday evening. The IMD has also predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in these states. It also said, Jharkhand can expect light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy falls at isolated places today and tomorrow.

"Light to moderate rainfall expected at most places with heavy to very heavy rains at few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places in Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, and Keonjhargarh today," IMD said.
