A temple priest in Kallakurichi of Tamil Nadu has filed a Habeas Corpus Petition before the Madras High Court stating his daughter S Soundarya was abducted by Kallakurichi MLA A Prabhu and he married her forcibly. Prabhu, 35 years old Dalit MLA had an inter-caste marriage with Soundarya, 19 years old, daughter of a temple priest. The marriage was organized by Prabhu's family members on October 5.
Soundarya’s family now has alleged that she was abducted by Prabhu and was forced to marry. Madras High Court Bench will hear this case tomorrow. Post marriage Kallakurichi MLA posted a video and said “Soundarya and I married each other willingly and there was no coercion or abduction. The rumors that I abducted her or forced her to marry me are not true. We have been in love for the past four months. My family and I had approached Soundarya’s family for the marriage but her family refused to give their blessings”, he said. In the video, Prabhu continued saying that the couple got married to his parent's blessing and permission who were also witnessing the wedding ceremony. Soundarya the newly wedded, said, she and her husband were in love for the past 4-6 months and that she married him on her own consent, no one forced her or threatened to marry the legislator.
Unhappy over the inter-caste marriage, the girl's family filed a complaint of abduction. The sources said the girl’s father tried to attempt suicide by dousing himself in petrol and threatening self-immolation in front of Prabhu's residence. The local police intervened and took him into custody. The girl’s family alleged that MLA lured her into a relationship when she was a minor.
