Top seed Daniil Medvedev defeated Andy Murray 6.4, 6.2 in the second round of the Miami Open tennis and is now eyeing a race to reach the semi-finals to achieve the number one ranking. At the moment, at number one is Novak Djokovic of Serbia.

In the last 18 years, only five men's players have reached the number one ranking, including Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Medvedev and Murray.   Medvedev was number one for three weeks but on Monday Djokovic has come back to the top. In another match, defending champion Hubert Hurkacz defeated Arthur Rinderneck 7.6, 6.2 to advance to the third round.  

In the women's section, Naomi Osaka has managed to reach the fourth round without landing on the court. He was given a walkover by Carolina Muchova. Belinda Benchich defeated Heather Watson 6.4, 6.1. Australian Open runner-up Danielle Collins defeated Vera Zvonareva 6.1, 6.4. At the same time, Ons Jabaur gave Keia Kanepi 6.3, 6.0.
