The ambush occurred on a highway near the town of Mayadin, where a convoy transporting soldiers from a nearby military base was targeted by Daesh fighters. The assailants unleashed a hail of gunfire and rocket-propelled grenades, leading to the instantaneous deaths of the soldiers.
