Jodhpur: Gayatri Devi, the former rajmata of Jaipur in Rajasthan, was born on May 23, 1919 in London, the capital of Britain. Prince Jitendra Narayan, the father of Princess Gayatri Devi, was the younger brother of the Crown Prince of Coochbehar (West Bengal), while Mata was Indira Raje, princess of Baroda. After first studying in Shanti Niketan, London and Switzerland, she was married to Maharaja Sawai Mansingh (II) of Jaipur.

Rajmata Gayatri Devi Siasat, once counted among the ten beautiful women in the world by Vogue magazine, was also active. He won the Jaipur Lok Sabha seat as an independent party candidate founded by Chakravarty Rajagopalachari in 1962 to win the election with the highest majority in the entire country.  Maharani Gayatri Devi is also credited with starting the first public school 'Maharani Gayatri Devi Public School' (MGD) in Jaipur in 1943 for the education of girls.

It was followed by the elections in 1967 and 1971 and elected lok sabha members victorious. But she also suffered in a political journey when she was imprisoned in Delhi's Tihar Jail during the Emergency. Books on Gayatri Devi (A Princess Remembrance) and (A Governments Gate Way) have been published in English. He passed away in Jaipur on 29th July, 2009 at the age of 90.
