Gangtok: Seven tourists have lost their lives in a dangerous avalanche in Sikkim. The avalanche occurred around 11.10 a.m. near the 15th milestone on the Jawaharlal Nehru Road connecting Gangtok and Nathula. Due to this, 25 to 30 tourists came under his grip. After the avalanche, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) started a rapid rescue operation. So far, 22 people have been rescued. Many of these have been pulled out of the deep valley.

Earlier, there were reports that the rescue operation was going on even faster to get these people out of there. Sikkim Police Inspector General (Check Post) Sonam Tenzing Bhutia has informed us that the dead include four men, a woman, and a child. So far, none of them have been identified. Along with the army, state police and local volunteers are also involved in the rescue operation.

Let us tell you that, as of 3 p.m. yesterday, out of 80 stranded tourists, 30 had been successfully rescued. At the same time, 50 tourists are still trapped in the snow. All the evacuated tourists have been admitted to various hospitals in the state capital, Gangtok. All these are being treated here.
