Bengaluru: Describing the Prime Minister's security situation as "unfortunate," former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda said on Thursday that there should be no complacency when it comes to protecting India's highest executive post.

The JD(S) patriarch also emphasized the need of learning from history. "It's terrible that the Prime Minister's protection is a source of contention. When it comes to safeguarding India's highest executive office, we must never be complacent. In a tweet, Gowda remarked, "We should learn from the past."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was stuck on a flyover in Punjab on Wednesday for 15-20 minutes owing to a protester barricade, an occurrence that the Union home ministry described as a "serious breach" in his protection.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, on the other hand, expressed remorse after Modi's visit to the state had to be cut short, but insisted that there had been no security breach.
