Deepika Chikhaliya, who played the role of 'Sita' in the famous serial 'Ramayana' of the television world, is celebrating her birthday today. Deepika was born on 29 April 1965 in Mumbai. That was also a period when Ramanand Sagar's serial 'Ramayana' used to come every Sunday on television in 1987-88. Every person used to watch this serial leaving all his work on Sunday morning.
According to media reports, the main stars of this serial also got popularity in such a way that the sculptors started flaunting them in the idols of Lord Shri Ram-Sita. The circumstances were such that wherever onscreen 'Mata Sita' used to go and wherever she went some people started touching her feet. In an interview, Deepika had said, "It was not that easy for her to be selected for the role of 'Sita'. Around 30-35 girls had come to give a screen test for the character of Sita. Not only this, they came for the role of Sita. The actresses were very beautiful, talented and glamorous, but I was chosen. Perhaps I suited the image of 'Sita' from 'Ramayana'. Director Ramanand Sagar wanted actors who could fit into the character."
When Deepika played the role of Sita, Arun Govil became Prabhu Shri Ram. Both these roles were such in the hearts of the people that after them no one else was accepted so much in the role of Ram and Sita. Deepika is also remembered for one of her ad films with 'Ramayana', that ad was 'Nirma Super' whose dialogue 'Aapki Parkhi Nazar and Nirma Super' is popular even today. After a long gap, Deepika once again returned to the small screen in 2017. His return to television was after 25 years. She appeared in a Gujarati show 'Chhuta Chheda', not Hindi.
