New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence announced on Sunday that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has given the green light to extend the rules governing Maternity, Child Care, and Child Adoption Leaves to women soldiers, sailors, and air warriors in the Armed Forces, bringing them on par with their officer counterparts.

This decision applies equally to all women serving in the military, regardless of their ranks, as per the ministry's statement. The move is aligned with the Defence Minister's vision of promoting the inclusive participation of all women in the Armed Forces, irrespective of their ranks. By extending these leave rules, the ministry aims to address women-specific family and social issues pertinent to the Armed Forces.

This measure is expected to enhance the working conditions of women in the military and help them strike a better balance between their professional and family lives. Furthermore, the ministry emphasized the commitment of the government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to harness the potential of "Nari Shakti" (women power) and highlighted the paradigm shift initiated by the three Services, which now include women as soldiers, sailors, and air warriors.

Acknowledging the contributions of women in the Armed Forces, from their operational deployment in challenging regions like Siachen to their service on warships, the ministry underscored that Indian women are consistently breaking barriers in almost every field within the Armed Forces.

The decision to recruit women as soldiers in the Corps of Military Police in the Indian Army was identified as a significant milestone in the evolution of the Armed Forces. The statement noted that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has consistently advocated for women's equality with their male counterparts in every field.
