Taipei: Taiwan's Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that it had detected 30 Chinese military aircraft around the island nation. The aircraft included a mix of fighter jets, bombers, and electronic warfare planes. Some of the aircraft flew into Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ), but none of them entered Taiwan's airspace.

The ministry said that the Chinese aircraft were flying in a "coordinated manner" and that they were "clearly a provocation." The ministry said that it had scrambled its own aircraft to monitor the situation and that it was "on high alert."

The Chinese government has not commented on the incident. However, it has previously said that its military exercises around Taiwan are necessary to protect its sovereignty.

The latest incident comes at a time of heightened tensions between China and Taiwan. China has been increasingly assertive in its claims over Taiwan, and it has conducted a series of military exercises in the area in recent months. Taiwan has also been increasing its defense spending and strengthening its military ties with the United States.

The United States has said that it will continue to support Taiwan's self-defense. However, it has also said that it does not support Taiwan independence.

The 30 Chinese military aircraft detected around Taiwan on Wednesday is the latest in a series of such incidents. In recent months, China has sent hundreds of military aircraft into Taiwan's ADIZ. These incidents have been seen as a way for China to pressure Taiwan and to test the Taiwanese military's response.
