New Delhi: In the wake of multiple explosions during a prayer meeting of Jehovah's Witnesses at a convention center in Kerala's Kalamassery, heightened security measures have been implemented in the national capital, Delhi, and the financial capital, Mumbai.

Delhi Police have increased security in densely populated areas of the city, taking the recent blasts into account. Simultaneously, the Mumbai Police have issued a high alert and bolstered security measures, considering the festive season, upcoming cricket matches, and the recent incidents in Kerala. Security around Chabad House, a Jewish center in Mumbai, has also been reinforced due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

The Delhi Police's Special Cell maintains constant communication with intelligence agencies and treats all incoming information with the utmost seriousness. Security arrangements have been bolstered at crowded venues throughout the city.

The explosions occurred at a convention center during a prayer meeting, resulting in one fatality and 36 individuals sustaining injuries. The meeting, which took place in Kalamassery, located approximately 10 kilometers from Kochi, was attended by nearly 2,000 people. This prayer meeting marked the culmination of a three-day event that commenced on October 27.

Kerala Police reported that an improvised explosive device (IED) was employed in the attack. They have announced the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the incident. Sources suggest that the explosive device was concealed within a tiffin box.

Following the series of explosions, Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over the phone. Minister Shah issued directives to the heads of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG), two central agencies specialized in counterterrorism investigations and operations, to deploy their specialized teams to the scene and initiate an inquiry.
