New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leaders to remove derogatory tweets and other posts from social media on an appeal by Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinay Kumar Saxena. The court has passed an interim injunction in favour of LG VK Saxena in this civil defamation suit.
Earlier, the LG had also requested the court to order AAP and its leaders Atishi Singh, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Durgesh Pathak, Sanjay Singh and Jasmin Shah to remove "false" and "defamatory" posts, tweets or videos shared on social media against them and the family. He has also sought damages and compensation of Rs 2.5 crore, including interest, from AAP and its five leaders. AAP leaders have alleged that Saxena, as chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KYIC) in November 2016, had acquired the demonetised currency and converted it into a new currency. The party had alleged that VK Saxena was involved in a Rs 1,400-crore scam.
In fact, 'AAP' and its leaders had accused LG of being involved in an alleged scam of Rs 1,400 crore. Giving interim relief, Justice Amit Bansal said, 'I give the verdict in favour of the complainant...'
