NEW DELHI:  The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections in a big way. Aam Aadmi Party Stalwart Arvind Kejriwal lost against Parvesh Verma of BJP by more than 3000 votes in the high-profile seat of the National Capital.

After the victory, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said that the people of Delhi have placed their trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi is expected to visit the BJP headquarters this evening to meet party workers and address them.

Scenes from the BJP office in New Delhi showed party workers celebrating as early results confirmed a clear win. This victory brings the BJP back to power in Delhi after 27 years. Party members were seen bursting firecrackers, dancing, and cheering. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and vice president Baijayant Panda were also present to join the celebrations.

As per the Election Commission's data at 1:30 PM, BJP was leading in 48 seats, which is more than the 36 needed to form the government in the 70-seat Delhi Assembly. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was ahead in 22 seats, while Congress did not win any.

Earlier, BJP’s Delhi chief Sachdeva said that voters had chosen PM Modi’s governance over Arvind Kejriwal’s. He blamed the Kejriwal-led government for issues like bad water quality, poor roads, sanitation problems, and pollution in the Yamuna River. He said the people of Delhi rejected Kejriwal’s leadership and chose Modi’s instead.

Sachdeva also accused AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi, and Saurabh Bharadwaj, of misleading the public. "They have betrayed the people, and that’s why they are losing. Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Atishi – all of them are linked to corruption," he said.

The election took place on February 5, with a voter turnout of 60.54%. BJP’s campaign, led by PM Modi, focused on attacking AAP over issues like pollution in the Yamuna and the costly renovation of Kejriwal’s official residence. During his speeches, PM Modi also used the terms "Aapda" (disaster) and "Sheesh Mahal" (glass palace) to criticize Kejriwal’s government.
