Delhi excise policy fraud: CBI detains a businessman in Hyderabad

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made a second arrest on Monday as part of the most recent development in the Delhi excise policy scandal involving Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi.

Abhishek Boinpally was arrested, according to the CBI, as part of their continuing investigation into suspected anomalies in the formulation and application of the excise policy of the  Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2021 of Delhi.

"He is from Hyderabad. He is a big businessman there. During the course of the investigation, his name came up. He was invited to join the probe but refused to answer questions and tried to deceive the CBI. We were forced to place him under arrest. He was taken into custody this morning. The FIR doesn't list him by name "the source said.

The detained suspect will appear in court on Rouse Avenue. The CBI would ask for two-week detention in custody for him.

Vijay Nair, the Jor Bagh-based businessman was the prime accused to be arrested by the agency. Following him, the accused Nair associate Sameer Mahendru was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Now, the CBI has made a second arrest in this case and the third overall.
