Goregaon (Maharashtra): Four people were detained by Mumbai Police on suspicion of attempting to defraud a businessman of Rs. 5 lakh by impersonating Central Bureau agents (CBI).

On September 30, four individuals posing as CBI and police employees stormed the Goregaon location of Aastik Trading Centre and demanded Rs. 5 lakh.

Four people were arrested by police after they were called to the scene. They also had fake Central Bureau and police identification cards,  Goregaon Police said.

The businessman told the police that he required a loan for about 1.6 crore rupees and that he had contacted someone. After some time, the fake officials showed up at the businessman's office.

The four people who were arrested had cases filed against them at several police stations on suspicion of duping,  said the police, 
According to the police, the gang used to target wealthy businesspeople. Their strategy was to lure victims by giving loans, then stage bogus raids and demand money while posing as CBI and police personnel.

Jeevan Aheer alias Vipul (age 52), Girish Klecha (age 29), Rahul Shankar Gayakwad (age 43), and Kishor Chaibal have been named as the four people detained (52).

The arrested have been the subject of an extortion complaint, and further investigation has been launched by the police. The fifth team member, in addition to the four others detained, is still at large, according to the police.
