New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to allow outdoor sports activities in the country's capital amid the corona pandemic. The high court said let the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) do its job. Justice V Kameshwar said that when the DDMA was scheduled to hold its meeting on February 4, there was no justification to continue the petition.

The judge also said that the lifting of the ban on malls and cinema halls cannot be compared with the prayer sought in the present case. The court said that the petitioner wants to play. Comparisons made to malls etc. should be seen from a different perspective. They are the source of employment. The petitioner wants to play tennis,  you can't look at it from that perspective. It gives sustenance and employs the people who are engaged.

The high court said the DDMA was looking into this and the direction to allow outdoor sports activities could not be at the behest of the petitioner. The court, while closing the petition, said that the petitioner will have the right to agitate over his grievances in future. Delhi government's counsel Satyakam argued that the decision to allow outdoor sports activities should be left to the DDMA, which is scheduled to complete on February 4.
