New Delhi: In a recent development, the Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and a local religious body to grant a month's time for a caretaker to vacate the site of a mosque and madrasa in the Hazrat Nizamuddin area, slated for demolition.

Justice Amit Sharma emphasized that no extensions would be granted beyond the stipulated period, setting a clear deadline for the petitioner, Faizyab Masjid and Madrasa, and any other concerned parties.

The mosque and madrasa, situated near the ISBT bus depot at Sarai Kale Khan in Hazrat Nizamuddin, were identified as unauthorized religious structures by the Delhi Religious Committee, prompting the legal intervention.

Petitioners representing the mosque and madrasa sought relief from the high court, challenging the legality and constitutionality of the impending demolition threats by the DDA and Delhi Police. They also demanded access to relevant documents and information regarding the decision-making process leading to the demolition order.

During the hearing, the focus shifted towards securing time to vacate the premises rather than halting coercive actions. The court duly recorded the caretaker's commitment to vacate the site within a month and urged the petitioners to adhere to this timeline.

Consequently, the court directed the DDA and the religious committee to allow a one-month period for the petitioner or any affiliated parties to evacuate the premises, ensuring compliance with the court's directive.

This decision underscores the judiciary's efforts to balance the need for lawful proceedings with considerations for the affected parties, highlighting the importance of adhering to legal processes and timelines in such matters.
