NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court is set to address a plea on Wednesday seeking the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the tragic drowning of three civil service aspirants at a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar. The plea was submitted for urgent consideration on Tuesday before a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela. The court indicated that the matter will be scheduled for hearing on Wednesday if the petition is properly filed by the afternoon.

The petitioner’s advocate submitted the request on Monday, asking for an expedited review of the case. The court has advised the petitioner to resolve any existing objections, ensuring that the petition is in order before the scheduled hearing.

The incident, which occurred on the evening of July 27, involved the drowning of three IAS aspirants—Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nevin Dalwin from Kerala. The basement of the building housing Rau's IAS Study Circle was inundated with water due to heavy rain, leading to the fatalities.

The petition also calls for the establishment of a committee to investigate coaching institutes operating unlawfully or failing to adhere to standard regulations. The committee's report would aim to address compliance issues and prevent future tragedies in similar institutions.
