New Delhi: Former student leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Umar Khalid, alleged people in protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Citizenship Register (NRC) for instigating riots in North-East Delhi. Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants were included. The police made this allegation by quoting a safe witness in the supplementary charge sheet filed against him.

The charge sheet further alleged that in 2019, Khalid and co-accused Sharjeel Imam decided that mosques should be the focal point of starting protests. The services of Imams should be used for Chakka Jam. According to the statement of one of the safe witnesses, who is part of the charge sheet, Khalid allegedly brought Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Citizenship Register (NRC) protests to incite the riots.

The Police said in the supplementary charge sheet that the incident of communal riots in the national capital New Delhi during the visit of US President Donald Trump to the Indian government in February could have been nothing more than a state of international embarrassment.
