Deliberate attempts creating confusion on Agnipath: Jitendra Singh

NEW DELHI: In the wake of widespread protests against the Agnipath recruitment scheme, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Sunday that deliberate attempts are being made to create confusion against a fabulous and far-sighted scheme. The minister also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the scheme for unemployed youth after extensive and careful deliberation.

Agnipath will give the youth the opportunity to work while also serving the nation. However, Singh said that a deliberate attempt is being made to create confusion that the scheme will ruin the previous arrangement of recruitment in the armed forces.

To assuage youth concerns, the minister of state in the prime minister's office stated that the scheme should be viewed as a supplement to the recruitment process.

"The scheme allows unemployed youth to serve in the armed forces for four years." Some will be given permanent jobs after four years, while those who are not will be given priority in other fields through finance and other assistance, he said on the sidelines of a function at Patnitop hill resort in his home constituency of Udhampur.

Earlier, the minister spoke at a workshop called Prashikshan Varg' by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) to educate party activists about the party's core ideology and principles, and he focused on the Modi government's achievements over the last eight years.

He said that despite various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the prime minister led the country to new heights of development, as evidenced by the fact that the world now views India as a global leader.
