Lucknow: For the past few days, the discussion of changing the names of some cities of the state including Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, has intensified. Sangam Lal Gupta, BJP MP from Pratapgarh, while writing a letter to PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and UP CM Yogi Adityanath, has demanded to rename Lucknow as Laxmanpuri. At the same time, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief OP Rajbhar has recommended renaming Ghazipur to Vishwamitra Nagar.

As per reports, BJP MP Sangam Lal Gupta in his letter said that if Mughal Garden can be renamed as Amrit Udyan, then why can't Lucknow be renamed as Lakhanpuri or Lakhanpur? He said that the names of the Mughal era should not remain in today's era. In his letter, he demanded to change this name as soon as possible. The MP wrote in the letter, 'According to the local belief, Lucknow, the capital of UP, was gifted by Maryada Purushottam Lord Shri Ram to his younger brother Shri Laxman in Treta Yug when he was the king of Ayodhya. For the same reason, it was named Lakhanpur and Laxmanpur. In the 18th century, Nawab Asufdaulah changed the name of the city to Lucknow. Now it should be renamed to its original name.

What is the history of Lucknow and Ghazipur:-

Let us tell you that till 1290 AD, the name of Lucknow is not mentioned anywhere. According to ancient Indian texts, Lord Shri Ram in Tretayuga gave a part of Kaushal state 30 km away from Ayodhya to his brother Lakshmana, which was named Lakshmanpuri, which later became Lakhanpur in common parlance. During the Mughal period, Akbar handed over the jagir of Lakhanpur to Sheikh Abdullah, the governor of Bijnor. Whose name was changed to Lucknow by Nawab Asafuddaula, who took over the throne of Lakhanpur in the year 1775? At the same time, in Indian texts, the ancient name of Ghazipur has been described as Gadhipur, which was established by Maharaja Gandhi, the father of Maharishi Vishwamitra. But, during the Muslim rule, the ruler Masud Ghazi changed its name from Gadhipur to Ghazipur.
