NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday suspended its Telangana MLA T. Raja Singh for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammad.

In a letter to Singh, BJP Central Disciplinary Committee Member Secretary Om Pathak wrote: "You have said opinions opposite to the Party's position on several topics, which is in plain violation of Rule XXV. 10 (a) of the Bharatiya Janata Party constitution." I have been instructed to inform you that, pending further investigation, you are immediately suspended from the party and from any duties or assignments you may have. "Please also show cause within 10 days of the date of this notice as to why you should not be dismissed from the party," Pathak continued. Pathak said, "Your detailed reply must reach the undersigned no later than September 2."

The controversial BJP MLA was detained by the Hyderabad Police earlier in the day for making disparaging statements about the Prophet Muhammad.  Following significant Muslim riots in some areas of Hyderabad, the Telangana Legislative Assembly member was detained after posting a video on Facebook with disparaging remarks.
At the Dabeerpura police station, the Goshamahal MLA has a case filed against him. He was arrested for inciting animosity amongst the various religious groups.

Singh was placed in pre-arrest custody last Saturday after making threats to interfere with comedian Munawar Faruqui's performance. The comedian's performance was held in a secure environment.

Singh is renowned for giving provoking speeches and disparaging comments about other religions. He was arrested in June for making derogatory comments about Sufi saint Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.
