Today, the festival of Dev Diwali is being celebrated across the country with enthusiasm and gaiety. In fact, this festival comes after 15 days of Deepawali, the festival of lights. On the other hand, this year Dev Diwali is being celebrated on 18th November, though Kartik Purnima bath and all the associated worship will be performed on 19th November.

People should bathe in the water of the holy river on Diwali and donate the lamps. Lamp donation is done on the banks of the river. On this day, lamp donation is performed on a large scale along the Ganga in Varanasi and it is called Dev Deepawali in Varanasi.

Why is it called Dev Diwali? - It is believed that Lord Shiva killed the Tripurasur demon on the full moon day of Kartik Month. The deities lit several lamps in Kashi to celebrate the killing of Tripurasur. That is why Diwali is still celebrated in Kashi every year on the full moon of Kartik month.
