Islamabad: Unidentified assailants ransacked a Hindu temple in Kotri in Pakistan's Sindh province. There has been a wave of outrage among local Hindus since the incident. According to Pakistani media reports, the attackers ransacked the temple and looted it before Diwali. The incident came to light on Friday when the attackers fled with lakhs of rupees in cash and other valuables after breaking the statue. In this way, Pakistan's PM Imran Khan's promise to protect the minority community was re-opened.

The Kotri police have registered a case but no arrests have been made in the case so far. The Pahenji newspaper reported that the minority minister has sought a report from the SSP of the area. According to Pakistani media, unidentified assailants looted jewellery, gold sculptures, prasad, UPS batteries and other valuables from the ancient Shiva temple in the Darya Band area of Kotri in Jamshoro in Hyderabad on Thursday night. The accused also damaged the statue of the goddess present in the temple. The stolen jewellery and other items are worth Rs 20 to 25 lakh.

According to Pak media, minority affairs provincial minister Gyan Chand Israni sought a report of the incident from SSP Jamshoro within 48 hours of receiving the information and ordered the arrest of the accused. The Kotri police have registered a report against unidentified persons and started an investigation. Meanwhile, security at the temples has been tightened. The Hindu community, on the other hand, said it appears that miscreants are plotting to create Hindu-Muslim riots before Diwali on November 4. The Hindu minority community has expressed grief over the attack on the temple.
