Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman praised former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, saying that Dhoni sees cricket as just a game and his ability to not compare it to life and death is excellent. Laxman said on Twitter, "Blessed with the ability to see cricket as a game and not compare it to life and death, Dhoni always works patiently, especially in situations of pressure."

He further said, a captain who is always known through his work, he started his superb captaincy by winning the 2007 World Cup. India won the first edition of the T20 World Cup by defeating Pakistan under Dhoni's captaincy in 2007. Apart from this, under his captaincy, India won the World Cup after defeating Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup after 28 years.

Dhoni won India's Champions Trophy in England in 2013. He resigned from the Test in 2014 and captaincy in ODIs in January 2017. The 38-year-old Dhoni has played 350 ODIs and 98 T20 matches for India so far, in which he has scored 10773 and 1617 runs. He has not played a single match since the World Cup semi-finals last year.
