CHENNAI: In spite of  being allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), a war of words is going on between the AIADMK and the BJP in Tamil Nadu.

K. Palaniswami, the AIADMK's former Chief Minister, slammed S. Duraiswamy, the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit's vice president, for claiming that the four BJP MLAs were more vocal in the Legislative Assembly than the AIADMK legislators. This comes after AIADMK organisational secretary and former minister C. Ponnayian claimed that the BJP was attempting to remove the party and expand on its own in the state. The AIADMK also claimed that the BJP lacked Dravidian roots.

"The AIADMK is running incredibly well," Palaniswami stated in a statement. "We don't require counsel from Duraiswamy." We are aware of how our legislators operate in the House of Representatives.

"I've been a member of the AIADMK since 1974, so it's been 48 years." Our workers have been with the AIADMK for several years and have remained loyal to the party, unlike him, who has switched parties." The senior leader's statement is a clear indication that the BJP's relationship with the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu is strained.

It should be noted that the BJP ran alone in the most recent urban local body elections. After Ponnayian's remark, BJP legislative party leader Nainar Nagendran spoke out against the AIADMK and welcomed V.K. Sasikala, the AIADMK's estranged interim general secretary, into the national party.
