Pitra Paksha: Pitra Paksha or Shraddha Paksha has an important place in every person's life. It is believed that our ancestors visit the earth during Pitra Paksha and it is quite auspicious to offer food to them during this time. In Hinduism, it is necessary to perform Shraddh after death. It is also believed that if during this time the ancestors' shraddh is not done, then they cannot get salvation.
Importance of Pitra Paksha:
The history of Pitra Paksha dates back to the Mahabharata period. The tradition of Shraddh started since the time of Mahabharata. It is mentioned in the Brahma Vaivarta Purana that before pleasing the gods we need to please our ancestors. Shraddh must be done for this. Shraddh starts from Bhadrapada Shukla Purnima and it lasts for 16 days, it ends on Ashwin Krishna Amavasya.
Do not use these materials during Shraadh:
There are some such things which we should not use at all during Shraddh.
Do not eat on banana leaves.
Keep in mind that iron stool should not be used.
We should perform Shradh with gold, silver, bronze, copper vessel or plate.
Must use these materials:
We should use Ganga-Jal, milk, honey, Dohitra, Kusha and sesame while doing Shraadh.
With basil leaves, the ancestors will stay happy. There is a belief that the ancestors ride on Garuda and go towards Vishnulok.
