The Taliban of 2021 looks very offbeat, on TV news clips, from the Taliban of the late 1990s. For one, the quality of their outfit improved and is clearly visible. Their weapons look brand new and shining; their Humvee or Humvee type vehicles are in perfect running order; the clothes they wear look clean and new; their neat coiffure a significant departure from the tousled looks of yore.

All in all, the Taliban of 2021 no longer look like the sick; ragged; dishevelled militia they used to be on grainy shaking visuals, caning and executing women (and men), during their barbaric rule over Afghanistan. Now, they look like a disciplined legion of well-fed, well-to-do fighters on a mission to take over the governance of Afghan.

We must have had thought hoe Taliban get money and all costly weapons. So let's tell you according to a NATO confidential report accessed by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty the annual budget of the Taliban in the financial year 2019-20 had been $1.6 Billion, a 400 percent increase in four years when compared to the Forbes figures of 2016. RFE/RF gave a breakdown of the revenues listing the different heads under which the Taliban earned their dollars.

*Taxes: $160 million (Protection/Extortion money?)
