Gwalior: The successful operation of brain tumor sitting on a chair is being carried out by the doctors of Jayarogya Hospital (JAH) in Gwalior. The special thing is also that due to the operation, the patient is not completely sedated. Due to this, the patient remains in a waking state. This method of operation is called awacc chronotonia. Since it is considered to be less safe, doctors have been giving less priority to this method, but all the 6 surgeons of the department of neuro surgery of Gwalior are performing 20 to 25 such successful operations per month. Doctors point out that this method is used in surgery of small tumors.

Dr Avinash Sharma, a neurosurgeon posted at Jayarogya Hospital, points out that this is the simplest method. This method removes the brain tumor present in the back of the head in the operation. The patient is made to sit on a chair (the head and body are tightened with a clamp) slightly fainting. Then, the back of his head is opened. This makes the surgeon see the tumor clearly. In surgery, blood continues to come out, so that air embolis (air bubbles) are not formed inside. There are 800 to 1000 brain tumor operations in Gwalior every year. It also has operations with the Awak Chronotonia method. Due to the operation, the doctors also keep talking to the patient, so that if he has any problem, then he can know immediately. Dr. Sharma says that sitting on a chair and operating on a patient, there is a higher risk of his blood pressure (BP) going down and air pressure in the arteries that transmit blood. However, the convenience of the operation by this method is that when the brain is opened, the blood flows outwards, so that the blood does not fill in and the surgeon's focus is on the tumor. If there will be any nerve damage to the brain due to this, then the patient may have to suffer for a lifetime such as paralysis, loss of eyesight, loss of ability to speak.

Dr Abhishek Chauhan, a neurosurgeon at The Birla Institute Medical Research (BIMR), Gwalior, underwent an operation in 2021 with the Avac Chronotania method to remove a tumour from the brain of a 9-year-old girl. Due to the operation, the child kept playing the piano and removed the tumor. Dr. Chauhan says that a year after the operation, he underwent a CT scan, in which everything was normal. The video of which is going viral today.
