There is no need to mention the role of a doctor in the life of a human being. In our culture, the doctor has also been given the status of God and to show the importance of God, every year 1st July is celebrated as National Doctor's Day. This special day is celebrated by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

The day also marks the birth anniversary and death anniversary of eminent doctor and former Bengal CM Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. The day has been marked to commemorate the tireless efforts and hard work of health care workers who work day and night to save lives. The world has led doctors by standing at the forefront of the pandemic during the covid 19 outbreak without compromising their duties.

Theme: Every year a theme is being set to celebrate this day. The theme of this year's National Doctors' Day is 'Family Doctors on the Front Line.'

History: National Doctors' Day was first celebrated in the year 1991 with the aim of honouring the work of former Bengal CM Dr BC Roy. He was a renowned physician who has also worked tirelessly to serve society. On February 4, 1961, he was awarded the country's highest civilian award 'Bharat Ratna'. He is also recognised for setting up medical institutions like Jadavpur TB Hospital, Victoria Institution (College), and Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital among others.

Significance: National Doctors' Day is celebrated to mark the role of doctors in society. Not only this, doctors work tirelessly to ensure that patients remain in good health. This day is also being said to be a great way to thank healthcare workers for their dedication and hard work.
