Chum Darang's dream of acting in Bollywood movies has come true, as the 29-year-old actress from Arunachal Pradesh makes her Bollywood debut with Junglee Productions' 'Badhaai Do.' The actress, who hails from Pasighat in East Siang district, will appear with Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar.
Chum, the daughter of Tajep Darang and Yamik Dulom Darang of Mirsam village in Pasighat, has also won other beauty pageants, including Miss AAPSU 2010. She has also competed in several national and international beauty pageants. She was one of the North East Diva 2014 finalists. She is also Miss Tiara India International 2017.
Not only that, but Chum Darang owns a coffee shop in Pasighat named 'Cafe Chu.' Badhaai Do, starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, is due to be released on Friday. Badhaai Do is an unique narrative that follows the journey of a lesbian lady and homosexual guy who marries as a cover-up to appease their parents. Darang will portray Bhumi Pednekar's love interest in the film.
Darang is thrilled about the opportunity, but she says that Bollywood was never the plan. "I wanted to perform, but I was scared people would laugh if I told them," Chum says. Initially she had planned to open a café in her hometown, but instead opted to pursue a career in acting.
"They both are so down-to-earth and work really hard. I know they are experienced, they know so much but during the shoot, they sat down, listened to the director and worked accordingly. I learnt to be hard-working and grounded from them, the respect they have for other actors on set was another thing that I learnt from them," she added.
