Drug peddlers shot by police in Banderdewa, Assam

Two known drug peddlers from the Parbatipur region of the Banderdewa police station in Assam's Lakhimpur district were shot by police last night as they tries to escape arrest during a police search operation.

Saidul Ali and Ajijur Rahman, both from Laluk, have been recognised. On Friday, Lakhimpur additional SP – Sumar Bhuyan elaborated on the event, saying that three drug peddlers, Sahidul Ali, Ajijur Rahman, and Rais Majhi, were detained from Pathaliphar last night. Officers found 173 kilograms of suspected heroin, as well as a car in their possession.

Following interrogation, the arrested drug traffickers were transferred to the OC Bihpuria Police Station for a search operation. The peddlers attempted to flee by snatching a constable's arms during the search. To prevent them from fleeing, police opened fire, wounded Ajijul and Saidul. Without firing a shot at the third peddler, he was apprehended. The injured were sent to Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
