Dubai to introduce Facial Recognition System in its Public Transport System

Dubai's Transport Department is working on a project to ensure more security for the locals. They are almost ready to introduce the facial recognition  feature on the public transport. Obaid al-Hathboor, director of Dubai's Transport Security Department, said, the facial recognition technology is highly effective in identifying suspicious and wanted people. He added the governance is aiming at improved performance with current capabilities, ensuring a high level of security in metro stations and other transport sectors.

The country is hosting the global Expo exhibition from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. This new securtiy feature is all set to bring up before the global expo exhibition hosted by Dubai. This is not the first time the AI is used in Dubai Public Transport. Dubai international airport is being used this feature for the last few months as a part of the process of becoming a "smart city" in the Middle East.

A special police unit underwent training in the United States will now be deployed at major metro stations during Expo 2020. The Expo is delayed by one year due to the coronavirus pandemic and is expected to attract 15 million visitors. On the other side, Dubai hopes to become one of the leading countries and want to be a hub for technology and artificial intelligence. An officer from the Dubai Police's Transport Security Department said the time taken to identify a suspect will be reduced to one minute from five minutes earlier.
