New Delhi, India: On Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia launched "Parents Samvad," a parent outreach programme for Delhi government schoolchildren. According to Sisodia, the programme "Parents Samvad: Let's Talk to Parents" will connect over 18 lakh parents on a one-to-one basis.

In this country, there are two types of parenting: zero parenting and overparenting, both of which are detrimental to a child's overall development. Either parents try to instruct rather than guide their children, or new generation parents try to become friends, but children only need parents, not bosses or friends. At the Tyagraj stadium launch, Sisodia said, "There are separate people to play those roles in their lives."

"Our school mitras' will connect with over 18 lakh parents on a one-to-one basis during the programme," Sisodia said. To bridge the gap between School Management Committees (SMCs) and parents, Delhi government schools will enlist the help of volunteer parents, known as 'school mitras.'
