BELGIUM: External affairs minister, S. Jaishankar thanked Belgians on their National Day and said India looks forward to strengthening ties with Belgium as the two countries mark 75 years of diplomatic relations. Jaishankar said in a tweet, "Happy National Day to the Belgian government, people, and foreign minister Hadja Lahbib. As we commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations, we anticipate advancing our close and amicable ties."

In September 1947, Belgium was one of the first European nations to open diplomatic ties with the newly independent India. The strong bilateral relationship is based on shared values such as federalism, pluralism, and the rule of law. India's desire for permanent membership in the UNSC is supported by Belgium. Excellent bilateral ties exist between India and Belgium.

Several political encounters, such as EAM's meeting with his then counterpart Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Belgium Sophie Wilmes in September 2021 on the margins of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), furthered the bilateral ties. From January to August 2021, India and Belgium would have a total bilateral trade of EUR 7.75 billion in products. During the same time period, India and Belgium had total bilateral service trade of EUR 892 million.

Belgium made a total of 2.4 billion USD in investments in India between April 2000 and June 2021, ranking 20th among all foreign investors in that country.
