Jakarta: On Tuesday, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's eastern region of Maluku, but no damage or injuries were immediately reported. The earthquake struck at 11:43 p.m. Jakarta time (1643 GMT), with the epicentre 137 kilometres northwest of the Maluku Tenggara Barat region and a depth of 123 kilometres beneath the seabed, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency. According to the Geophysics Agency, the significant quake did not have the capacity to cause a tsunami. The quake's strength was measured at III MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in Saumlaki and II to III MMI in Tual, according to the report.

The Secretary of the Provincial Disaster Management Agency, Sais Salong, said on Wednesday that the quake's shocks were minor. According to accounts, there were no reports of buildings being demolished and no casualties in the two towns that were affected the worst.
