Kabul: On Friday, August 16, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Afghanistan, as confirmed by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). Fortunately, no casualties or significant damage have been reported so far.

The tremors were recorded at 6:35 PM IST, with the earthquake’s epicenter located at latitude 37.09 degrees north and longitude 71.17 degrees east, at a depth of 130 kilometers beneath the surface.

The NCS released a statement detailing the event: “Magnitude 4.8 Earthquake on 16/08/2024 at 06:35:16 IST, Latitude: 37.09 N, Longitude: 71.17 E, Depth: 130 Km, Location: Afghanistan."

While the region has experienced tremors in the past, this earthquake did not result in any immediate damage, and more updates are still awaited. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents.
